- 3. notation Is a way of writing very large or very small numbers. A number written in this form is normally a number between 1 and 10 is multiplied by a power of 10. Ex: 4 x 10^3
- 5. Is a symbol and placeholder for a quantity that may change, or any mathematical object. In particular, it may represent a number, a vector, a matrix, a function, the argument of a function, a set, or an element of a set. Ex: X or Y or Z
- 6. formula Applied when one is required to find the exact center point between two defined points. So for a line segment, use this formula to calculate the point that bisects a line segment defined by the two points. Ex:(x1-x2/2), (y1-y2/2)
- 8. Numerical measure of a line's inclination relative to the horizontal or ratio of the vertical to the horizontal distance between any two points on it. Ex: Rise/Run
- 10. Is the longest side of a right-angled triangle, the side opposite the right angle. The length of this can be found using the Pythagorean theorem. Ex: if one of the other sides has a length of 3 (when squared, 9) and the other has a length of 4 (when squared, 16), then their squares add up to 25. The length of the ________ is the square root of 25, which is, 5.
- 11. angles Are a pair of opposite angles formed by intersecting lines. Also known as each of the pairs of opposite angles made by two intersecting lines. Ex: X
- 13. Is a number that represents a part of a whole. It consists of a numerator and a denominator. Ex: 1/2
- 15. A number or ratio that can be expressed as a fraction of 100. If we have to calculate percent of a number, divide the number by the whole and multiply by 100.Ex: 12%
- 16. form A form of writing a given mathematical concept like an equation, number, or an expression in a form that follows certain rules. Also is another way to write slope-intercept form. Ex: Ax + By = C
- 18. Is a general term for four specific ways to manipulate the shape and/or position of a point, a line, or geometric figure. The original shape of the object is called the Pre-Image and the final shape and position of the object is the Image under the transformation. Ex: 4 units left, 3 units up, point (6, 7) is reflected over y = x, Rotate Figure ABC 90 degrees
- 19. Is a motion of a certain space that preserves at least one point. It can describe, for example, the motion of a rigid body around a fixed point. Ex: Rotate Figure ABC 90 degrees
- 20. theorem A theorem attributed to Pythagoras that the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. Can also be described as the square of the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle equals the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two sides. Ex: a^2 + b^2 = c^2

- 1. angles The angles which occupy the same relative position at each intersection where a straight line crosses two others. If the two lines are parallel, they are equal. Ex: angle p and angle w are the ______ angles.
- 2. equation An equation between two variables that gives a straight line when plotted on a graph. Also can be defined as an algebraic equation in which each term has an exponent of one and the graphing of the equation results in a straight line. Ex: 2x – 3 = 0
- 4. A type of transformation that takes each point in a figure and slides it the same distance in the same direction. Can also also be interpreted as the addition of a constant vector to every point. Ex: 4 units left, 3 units up
- 7. lines Two lines (on the same plane) are parallel to each other if they never intersect each other, regardless of how far they are extended on either side. They run along each other like the tracks of a train. Ex: ∥
- 9. In geometry it is known as a flip. Also known as a mirror image of the shape. Ex: point (6, 7) is reflected over y = x.
- 12. A quantity representing the power to which a given number or expression is to be raised. Usually expressed as a raised symbol beside the number or expression. Ex: 6^3
- 14. intercept form The equation of a straight line in the form y = mx + b. Where m is the slope of the line and b is its y-intercept. Ex: y = 5x + 3e
- 17. formula Algebraic expression that gives the distances between pairs of points in terms of their coordinates. Can also be described as a method to find the distance between two points. Ex: (x2-x1)2+(y2 -y1)2
