- 2. A group of people in the upper part of the Third Estate who sought to gain their way into higher classes. At first allies of the Revolution, but eventually targeted during the Radical Phase.
- 7. Antoinette The Austrian princess who became Queen of France through marriage. Lived a lavish lifestyle, and was much hated by revolutionaries.
- 8. Began as a revolutionary general, named himself 1st Consul and eventually Emperor of France. Lead France to conquer most of Europe. Reformed the French government.
- 10. The government established by the Third Estate in 1789 when it felt it had not been fairly represented and demanded change.
- 13. The title used for someone left-of-center on the French Revolution’s political spectrum. The most radical of these were the Sans-Culottes.
- 16. The law passed by the National Assembly in 1790 that required absolute allegiance to France, placed the Catholic church entirely under control of the French government, and eliminated church taxes on peasants, among other things.
- 17. An intellectual movement that challenged the Enlightenment that emphasized emotions, the individual, nature, and nationalism.
- 18. Leader of the Committee of Public Safety. His death would mark the end of the Reign of Terror and the Radical Phase of the Revolution in 1794.

- 12. A strategy adopted by Napoleon and the French to blockade the British from the rest of Europe. He feared that France could not deal with British power.
- 14. King of France before the French Revolution. He was known for a lavish lifestyle, and his inability to make difficult decisions.
- 15. The site of Napoleon’s last defeat at the hands of a coalition of European powers. It resulted in Napoleon’s permanent exile in 1815.
