CH 21 Tooth Anomalies
Across
- 3. lack of development or defective development of the enamel of the tooth before it's eruption
- 6. conical-shaped crown, short root, single or multiple, may erupt
- 9. hereditary disease resulting in defective dentin formation; dentin is soft and pulp chambers show obliteration; appear in discolored shades of brown-gray w/ a silvery sheen
- 13. enamel covering crowns of the teeth is found to be defective; effects multiple teeth with significant discoloration and pitting; thinner enamel; enamel "flakes off"
- 17. large carious lesion destroys the roof of the pulp chamber
- 19. extra cusp that emanates from the central groove on the occlusal surface of posterior teeth; affects md teeth more so with bilateral involvement
- 20. small sphere of enamel on root surface; attached to cementum or CEJ
- 21. extra tooth buds or cleavage of tooth buds
- 22. usually bilateral; short roots; familial; a form of microdontia
- 23. calcification occurs around nidus and of cells in the pulp chamber
- 24. teeth exhibit elongated, large pulp chambers and short roots
- 25. enamel organ invaginates into the crown before mineralization
Down
- 1. "rootless teeth" ; radicular and coronal dentin dysplasia
- 2. Inflamed dental pulp caused by external trauma, caries, invasive dental procedures and extreme temperatures
- 4. a decrease in the number of teeth; most common missing teeth are 3rd molars and mx lateral incisors
- 5. single tooth germ attempts to divide and produce two teeth; two crowns joined by a notched incisal area; one root, one pulp canal
- 7. "ghost teeth" ; very thin enamel and dentin; large pulp chambers
- 8. 1-5 teeth do not develop
- 10. disturbance in the maturation of the enamel matrix from trauma; localized, chalky white spot or brown lesion
- 11. destruction of the tooth structure, initiated on the outside of the tooth, generally the root; initiated by cells that originate in the PDL leading to osteoclastic-like activity
- 12. two adjacent teeth united by cementum only
- 14. horizontal rows of enamel pitting of crowns of teeth that are forming at that time
- 15. destruction of tooth structure within the pulp chamber or root canal
- 16. accessory cusp near cingulum of permanent incisor
- 18. union of two separate tooth germs caused by hereditary, pressure, or crowding; single large tooth where two teeth should be; roots may be separate or fused; usually primary incisors
