Chapter 18: The Knee
Across
- 3. A ligament in the knee that attaches to the anterior aspect of the tibial plateau, restricting anterior movement of the tibia on the femur.
- 4. Cartilage in the knee between the femoral condyle and the medial tibial plateau.
- 5. A rounded prominence found at a point of articulation with another bone.
- 6. The growth plate within the end of a bone.
- 11. Outward bending or twisting force.
- 12. The top, flat portion of the tibia.
- 14. The point where the kneecap and femur are connected in the trochlear groove.
- 15. Inward bending or twisting force.
- 18. A small bone formed in a tendon where it passes over a joint; usually rounded. The patella is an example.
- 20. The thin layer of cartilaginous connective tissue over the ends of long bones where joints are formed.
- 22. The kneecap.
- 23. A grinding noise or sensation within a joint.
- 24. Cartilage in the knee between the femoral condyle and the lateral tibial plateau.
Down
- 1. A lubricating substance, produced by the synovial membrane, found in joints.
- 2. A ligament that attaches to the femur and the fibula; maintains stability of the lateral aspect of the knee joint
- 7. The tendon that encompasses the patella and extends distally across the front of the knee.
- 8. A layer of tissue that lines joint cavities and produces synovial fluid.
- 9. Swelling within the joint cavity.
- 10. The back side of the patella that is covered with a thick layer of articular cartilage.
- 13. The area where the sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus muscles attach to the anteriomedial tibia.
- 16. A ligament that attaches the femur to the tibia; maintains the stability on the medial aspect of the knee joint.
- 17. A ligament in the knee that attaches to the posterior aspect of the tibial plateau, restricting posterior movement of the tibia on the femur.
- 19. A group of muscles that extend the knee; found on the anterior side of the thigh. Includes the vastus medialis, vastus intermedius, vastus lateralis, and biceps femoris.
- 21. The point where the tibia meets with the femur.
