Chemistry Vocab: The Final Chapter
Across
- 2. The law that states that mass cannot be created or destroyed in ordinary chemical and physical changes
- 3. A substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a reaction (starting substances in a chemical reaction).
- 5. Simplest form of matter that only consists of a single particle of matter.
- 7. Substances made up of only one type of atom. Some of these exist as atoms and some exist as molecules (2 or more of the same atom bonded together).
- 9. A number that goes on the bottom of an atom that tells us the the number of atoms glued together (or how many atoms to the left of the number you have). You CANNOT change this number when balancing equations...it must stay the same.
- 11. The amount of space an object takes up
- 14. A change of matter from one form to another without a change in chemical properties/identity.
- 15. A substance produced in a chemical reaction
- 16. The state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape
- 17. A measure of the force of gravity on an object
Down
- 1. A change that occurs when one or more substances change into entirely new substances with different properties.
- 4. A number in front of a chemical formula in an equation that indicates how many molecules or atoms of each formula that makes up the chemical equation. This number CAN be changed when balancing equations.
- 6. The amount of matter in an object
- 8. A state of matter with no definite shape or volume
- 10. A state of matter that has a definite shape and a definite volume
- 12. Made up of two or more elements joined together by a chemical bond. They may be atoms of the same type or atoms of a different type.
- 13. How much matter is in a given amount of space.
