Across
  1. 3. Air moves from the pharynx to the trachea, a flap of tissue called the epiglottis covers the entrance to the trachea when you swallow (windpipe).
  2. 6. Giant artery that sends blood from heart to the body
  3. 8. Forms clots to help stop bleeding from damages blood vessels. Smallest cell in the body
  4. 9. The iron-containing protein that binds to oxygen in the lungs and transports it to tissues. Gives the red blood cells their color.
  5. 11. Circulation Circulation that pumps the blood to the rest of the body.
  6. 14. The fluid that leaks from the blood into the surrounding tissues.
  7. 15. Stop blood from entering a chamber.
  8. 16. A condition in which fatty deposits called plaque build up on the inner walls of the arteries.
  9. 18. The lower chamber of the heart which pumps blood.
  10. 20. Returns the blood to the heart.
  11. 21. The large, flat muscle at the bottom of the chest cavity (the breathing muscle).
  12. 22. Circulation The pathway that pumps the blood from the heart to the lungs.
Down
  1. 1. 2 large passageways in the chest cavity that air passes through from the larynx to the trachea. Each bronchus leads into one of the lungs. Within each lung, the large bronchus subdivides into smaller bronchi, which lead to even smaller passageways called bronchioles.
  2. 2. The upper chamber of the heart which receives the blood.
  3. 4. The loss of elasticity in the tissues of the lungs. This condition makes breathing very difficult.
  4. 5. Special class of white blood cells that produce antibodies that are proteins that help destroy pathogens
  5. 6. Large vessels that carry blood from the heart to the tissues of the body. All arteries except for the pulmonary arteries carry oxygen-rich blood.
  6. 7. Smallest of the blood vessels. Walls are only one cell thick. They bring nutrients and oxygen to the tissues and absorbing carbon dioxide and other waste products from them.
  7. 10. Thick layer of muscle in the walls of the heart.
  8. 12. Millions of tiny air sacs used for gas exchange.
  9. 13. The tube at the back of the mouth (throat). Serves as a passage way for both air and food.
  10. 17. Node Located in the right atrium. Sends signals that tell the heart when to beat.
  11. 19. Top of the trachea, contains 2 highly elastic folds of tissue know as the vocal cords.
  12. 22. Plasma is about 90% water, and 10% dissolved gases, salts, nutrients, enzymes, hormones, waster products, and proteins call plasma proteins.
