- 6. to could – used to be able to, as in, “I can’t do a cartwheel any more, but I used to could.”

- 15. hankerin’ for, a desire/craving for
- 16. cotton, wealthy; successful (and maybe snobby)
- 18. large, heavy shoes like those worn by farmers
- 22. difficult to deal with; stubborn; finicky
- 25. family, especially extended family
- 27. a person from the North
