Expressions, Equations, & Inequalities Vocab (Unit 4)
Across
- 2. A symbol for a value we don't know yet. It is usually a letter like x or y.
- 6. Terms whose variables (such as x or y) with their exponents (such as the 2 in x2) are the same.
- 8. A value, or values, we can put in place of a variable (such as x) that makes the equation true.
- 10. Compares two values, showing if one is less than, greater than, or simply not equal to another value. a ≠ b says that a is not equal to b. a < b says that a is less than b
- 11. A fixed value. In Algebra, a constant is a number on its own, or sometimes a letter such as a, b or c to stand for a fixed number.
Down
- 1. Finding what to multiply to get an expression.
- 3. Says that multiplying a number by a group of numbers added together is the same as doing each multiplication separately.
- 4. In Algebra itis either a single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together. They are usually separated by a + or − sign, but can be separated in other ways.
- 5. Numbers, symbols and operators (+, −, ×, ÷, etc) put together to represent a value.
- 7. A number used to multiply a variable. Variables with no number in front of it have a 1.
- 9. Says that two things are equal. It will have an equals sign "=" like this.
