2. A letter (like x or y) used to represent an unknown or changing number in an equation.
5. One of two numbers whose product is 1. You find it by "flipping" a fraction upside down
7. The number that is multiplied by a variable in an algebraic expression.
9. One of the four regions formed on a coordinate plane by the intersection of the x-axis and y-axis.
11. OF CENTER A single number used to describe the "middle" or "typical" value of a data set. Examples include the mean and median.
12. A comparison of two quantities by division.
14. A stray data value that is much higher or much lower than the rest of the numbers in the set.
15. An unfolded, flat 2D pattern that can be folded up to make a 3D solid shape.
16. A measure of center found by adding up all the data points and dividing by the total number of points; also called the average.

1. To break a complex geometric shape down into simpler shapes, like triangles and rectangles, to find its total area.
3. VALUE The distance a number is from zero on a number line, always written as a positive value.
4. A special bar graph that shows data grouped into equal intervals rather than individual numbers.
6. The exact middle number in a data set when the numbers are listed in order from least to greatest.
8. RANGE A measure of variability (spread) that tells you the distance between the first and third quartiles.
10. The small, raised number that tells you how many times to multiply a base number by itself.
13. A closed, flat 2D shape formed by three or more straight line segments. (No curves allowed!)
