Ratios and Proportional Reasoning Vocab
Across
- 2. A fraction that also has a fraction on the top, bottom or both.
- 6. The ratio of the length in a drawing (or model) to the length on the real thing.
- 7. The horizontal value in a pair of coordinates: how far along the point is. The X Coordinate is always written first in an ordered pair of coordinates (x,y), such as (12,5).
- 10. The vertical value in a pair of coordinates. How far up or down the point is. The Y Coordinate is always written second in an ordered pair of coordinates (x,y) such as (12,5)
- 11. Fractions which have the same value, even though they may look different.
- 12. The starting point. Sometimes written as the capital letter O • On a number line it is 0, • On a two-dimensional graph it is where the X axis and Y axis cross
- 13. Rate How much of something per 1 unit of something else.
Down
- 1. Plane The plane formed by the "x" axis and "y"
- 3. A drawing that shows a real object with accurate sizes reduced or enlarged by a certain amount (called the scale).
- 4. The constant value (often written k) relating amounts that rise or fall uniformly together. It is the ratio of the amounts y and x: k = y/x Put another way: y = kx
- 5. When quantities have the same relative size. In other words they have the same ratio.
- 8. A ratio shows the relative sizes of two or more values.
- 9. Pair Two numbers written in a certain order. Usually written in parentheses like this: (12,5). Which can be used to show the position on a graph, where the x (horizontal) value is first, and the y (vertical) value is second.
