Respiratory System
Across
- 1. I am a common respiratory system illness. I am usually treated with an inhaler.
- 7. We are the tiny branches found inside the lungs. We carry air.
- 10. I am a muscle under the lungs. The brain stem tells me to go up and down a person's whole life so they can breathe.
- 11. I am the tube that leads from the pharynx & larynx down into the chest. I split into 2 main tubes that lead into each lung.
- 14. We are the tiny air sacs found in the lungs. We trade oxygen to the blood in exchange for carbon dioxide.
- 15. I am probably the most well-known organ in the respiratory system. If I am on a person's left side, I am smaller to make room for the heart.
- 17. I am a waste gas produced by cells. Blood will transport me to the lungs so I can be exhaled.
- 18. I am commonly referred to as the "voice box". I contain vocal cords.
Down
- 2. I coat the inside of much of the respiratory system. I help catch dust & germs. In the nose I am usually referred to as snot.
- 3. We are the 2 main tubes that branch off from the trachea and lead into each lung.
- 4. I am the medical term for hairs found in your nose, and the hairs that line your trachea.
- 5. I am the nickname for the trachea.
- 6. I am the gas in air people need. I make up 21% of the atmosphere. The alveoli trade me to the blood for carbon dioxide. Plants create me.
- 8. I am a tough but somewhat flexible material. There are rings made of me in the trachea to help make it strong.
- 9. I am the tiniest blood vessel where gas exchange takes place. I lay on top of alveoli.
- 12. We are found in the larynx. We vibrate when air escapes the lungs. We can be long or short, or thick or thin.
- 13. I include the nose and the passageway to the pharynx. I can filter the air with cilia & mucus.
- 16. I am one way for air to enter the body. I have saliva instead of mucus, and no cilia.
