science work
Across
- 3. The difference in elevation between one
- 5. The flow of mass of mud or rock and soil mixed with a large amount of water
- 6. Equal elevation of a map
- 7. Science Modules are comprehensive science kits that investigate key science topics through the powerful combination of hands-on activities and content.
- 11. A relationship between the measurements on a model, map, or diagram and the actual measurements or distance
- 12. Remote Sensing is the science of capturing information about the earth's surface using reflected or emitted energy collected by sensors mounted on satellites, aircrafts or drones.
- 14. Fine-grained sediment of quartz, feldspar, hornblende, mic, and clay deposited by the wind
- 15. A geographic information system is a type of database containing geographic data, combined with software tools for managing, analyzing, and visualizing those data.
- 16. The boundary between land and the bodys of water
- 17. Index contours are bold or thicker lines that appear at every fifth contour line.
- 18. A mound of wind-deposited sand that moves as a result of the action of wind
- 21. The size and shape of the land surfaces features of a region including its relief
- 22. The slow downhill movement of weathered rock material
- 24. The rock material carried and deposited by glacials
- 26. An alluvial fan is a triangle-shaped deposit of gravel, sand, and even smaller pieces of sediment, such as silt. This sediment is called alluvium. Alluvial fans are usually created as flowing water interacts with mountains, hills, or the steep walls of canyons.
- 28. Sand narrow island that lies parallel to the shores
- 29. An area of the shoreline that is made up of deposited sediment
Down
- 1. Deposition is the laying down of sediment carried by wind, flowing water, the sea or ice. Sediment can be transported as pebbles, sand and mud, or as salts dissolved in water. Salts may later be deposited by organic activity (e.g. as sea shells) or by evaporation.
- 2. A floodplain (or floodplain) is a generally flat area of land next to a river or stream. It stretches from the banks of the river to the outer edges of the valley. A floodplain consists of two parts. The first is the main channel of the river itself, called the floodway. Floodways can sometimes be seasonal, meaning the channel is dry for part of the year.
- 4. The Global Positioning System, originally Navstar GPS, is a satellite-based radionavigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force.
- 8. Erosion is the geological process in which earthen materials are worn away and transported by natural forces such as wind or water. A similar process, weathering, breaks down or dissolves rock, but does not involve movement.
- 9. The difference between the highest and lowest elevation in a given area ;the variations in elevation of land surfaces
- 10. slope, Numerical measure of a line's inclination relative to the horizontal.
- 13. The water that is beneath earth's surface.
- 19. The rapid mass movement of the rock down a steep slope or cliff
- 20. Shows the surface features of earth
- 23. The sudden movement of rock and soil down a slope
- 25. A large mass of ice
- 27. A low ridge of sand deposited along the shore of a lake or sea
