  1. 2. At the end of a performance, applause by audience - the bows.
  2. 10. An imaginary surface at the edge of the stage through which the audience watches a performance.
  3. 11. The offstage area to the sides of the stage. To be ‘in the wings’ means to be standing in the space out of sight from the audience where actors await their cues.
