- 3. This is the start of the American Revolution. British soldiers were sent to Concord to take weapons from patriots who had them stored in a safe place there. When the soldiers arrived in Lexington shots were fired between British soldiers and patriots which begins the American Revolution.
- 4. This was a tax on sugar in 1764, a year after the French and Indian War to help pay the costs. Colonists refused to pay the tax and began protesting.
- 5. The treaty that ended the Revolutionary War. It allows the creation of the United States of America and forces England to give up its colonies to the patriots.
- 7. When the colonists refused to pay the taxes from the Townshend Acts, England got rid of all but a tax on tea. The colonists refused to pay this tax as well. Several patriots dressed up as Native Americans and dumped the tea from English ships into Boston Harbor.
- 8. After the French and Indian War the English king did not want the colonists starting another war with the natives. He created a line that stated no colonists were allowed to cross the Appalachian Mountains. This angered the colonists because they wanted the new lands they won from France in the war.

- 14. A meeting of patriots in 1774 to figure out how the colonies were going to respond to England’s passing of the Intolerable Acts. They wrote a letter to the king complaining about taxes and the acts and asked him to fix these problems. They also agreed to boycott, or not buy, anymore goods from England.
- 16. A letter written by the 2nd Continental Congress, mostly Thomas Jefferson, that told the king of England all the reasons they wanted to leave England and become their own country. It was basically a breakup letter from the colonists to the king of England.
- 18. England passed these laws, also known as the Coercive Acts, in response to the colonists dumping the tea in Boston Harbor. The first part closed Boston Harbor so colonists couldn’t trade or get supplies from other countries or colonies. The second part took away Boston’s rights to have a government. The third part allowed any loyalist accused of a crime by a patriot to be tried in Britain or to allow the king to remove the charges all together. The last part stated that colonists had to provide British soldiers with places to sleep and food to eat.
- 19. On March 5, 1770 five colonists were shot dead in the streets of Boston by British soldiers. The soldiers had been sent to keep the colonies from rebelling and refusing to pay taxes. An angry mob started to threaten some soldiers when they fired on the crows.

Patriots were people living in the English colonies of North America that did not support England and the taxes. They wanted to rebel against England and the king. This group of people will lead the American Revolution.

The colonists felt it was unfair because they didn’t get to vote on the taxes. Representation means you have a say in government.
- 11. This was the 2nd meeting of patriots who got together to decide what to do now that shots had been fired against British soldiers. They decided to start an army and made George Washington commander of all forces. They agreed to print money to pay for a war if it happened. They created a group to meet with foreign nations to help them against Britain. They tried to offer a peace with the king who refused so they eventually write the Declaration of Independence telling England they no longer wanted to be their colony.
- 12. This is the treaty that was signed in Paris to end the French and Indian War. England won and they gained all of France’s lands in west of the Appalachian Mountains.
- 15. English taxes on glass, lead, paper and tea that was brought into the colonies. England was hoping that if they put the tax on goods before they came into the colonies then the people wouldn’t complain about them.
- 17. This was part of the Intolerable or Coercive Acts that forced colonists to provide food and shelter for British soldiers.
- 20. This was a tax on all paper products in the colonies. Colonists had to get a stamp to show they had paid a tax on their newspapers, books, paper, etc.
