Visual Literacy

1. Something used to stand for something else (the digital wave on MRHS uniform symbolises the Murrumbidgee River)
5. Used to show action and direction in an image through lines. Can be a visible line or an implied line(gaze)
8. Refers to how the viewer is drawn to aspects of an image. Salient image is the first thing the viewer sees.
10. The perspective an image is viewed from.
11. The illumination of an image - how light or dark the colour is.
12. The pathway taken by the viewer to absorb and comprehend the whole image. Uses vectors to move through the image.
13. The clarity of colour in an image.
15. Used to express and develop ideas in images. Can be symbolic and represent mood or feeling.

2. The flow or visual rhythm of elements.
3. Direction the subject of an image looks toward. Either direct gaze (eye contact) or no gaze (not looking at all).
4. A one dimensional component of an image that points in a clear direction.
6. Height and width of objects compared to each other.
7. Distance between viewer and the perspective (focaliser).
9. The organisation of an image - the way it is put together.
14. The different shade of each colour.
