WATER CYCLE
Across
- 3. Water that moves across the surface of land, flowing into streams and rivers. Runoff is common after heavy rainfall. Runoff is also common when farmers water their fields of crops. Runoff can carry pollution into streams and rivers.
- 6. When water vapor leaks out of leaves. A plant’s leaves open holes to let in CO2 molecules, and some of the plant’s H2O molecules leak out through those holes. A really big tree can lose 1000 liters (3000 soda cans) a day through transpiration.
- 7. A region with a lot of groundwater, a lot of water spread through the rocks & soil. Aquifers are great places to dig a well.
- 8. The path that all water follows as it moves in two ways. It moves between phases; solid, liquid, and gas. It moves between places; oceans, air, mountains, rivers, etc.
- 9. Water falling from the sky. Includes rain, snow, sleet, and hail.
Down
- 1. The study of water. Hydro means water.
- 2. Change from liquid to gas without boiling. Evaporation is slow, but the oceans are huge, so evaporation is huge, too.
- 4. Change from gas to liquid. Includes clouds, fog, mist, dew, and water on the outside of an ice-cold drink.
- 5. Water that is in the ground. Dirt is damp. Deeper down, there are many cracks in the rocks, trapping water. Groundwater trickles downhill very slowly.
