  1. 1. Treat all metal as if it is hot. Test to see if a piece is hot by holding the back of your hand a few inches away.
  2. 3. Always wear natural fiber clothing and leather shoes. Your pants must cover your shoe opening.
  3. 4. Welding tanks are under a lot of pressure. Students are not allowed to move tanks or welders without assistance from the instructor.
  4. 7. Do not weld on painted or coated metals like galvanized pipe.
  5. 9. Always wear proper P.P.E. including: Safety glasses, welding gloves, welding jacket and shield.
  6. 10. Inspect all equipment and P.P.E. before welding. Do not weld with damaged equipment or P.P.E.
  7. 11. Do not weld on containers. They could blow up.

  1. 2. Make sure your welding area is clean, dry and free of flammable contents.
  2. 3. Remove all jewelry and flammable contents from your pockets before welding.
  3. 5. Ask your instructor if you are unsure.
  4. 6. Always weld in a well ventilated area. Keep your head out of the plume.
  5. 8. Use welding pliers to pick up hot metal.
