- 1. This was first invented in 3500 BC and was made from bamboo and oil paper. It was originally made to prevent people from getting wet in the rain and to protect them from the sun’s rays as even after decades is still it’s main purpose. Today they have been upgraded and are usually made of nylon, have various designs and there are different kinds.
- 2. Chinese philosophers Lu Ban and Mozi created this invention in the fifth century BC and was made from silk and lightweight bamboo as the framework. They were used to carry out messages and during the medieval period was used to test wind, measure distance and for military communication. Currently they are used for entertainment typically for children and just fly in the wind or to be used when surfing.
- 3. It was the first chemical explosive and was made by Chinese Taoist alchemists in 1000 AD when mixing elemental sulfur, charcoal and saltpeter. It is one of the Four Great Inventions of Ancient China and was originally made in attempt to find the Elixir of immortality. Shortly after, engineers used it for bombs, guns, mines and rockets.
- 4. In 132 AD Zhang Heng created this invention throughout the Han dynasty and called it the “Houfeng Didong”. When first created, it measured the movements of the Earth,seasonal winds and most importantly detected earthquakes. They currently have the same purpose but have a different method of detecting earthquakes and record them.
- 5. This was an invention throughout the Bronze Age and was originally used as shackles for slaves. Over time it has been modified and is used by a majority of people to secure doors and other devices, and is a fastening device that is released by a specific object varying from keys to fingerprints etc.
- 6. It was invented during the Shang dynasty which was then further developed in the Tang dynasty and was made from petuntse, grounded to powder and mixed with kaolin. It is a ceramic material and were usually housed as decoration, served as gifts or made statues and ornate trinkets for higher classes. Throughout the years it has had multiple purposes such as tableware, decorative objects like vases, lab equipment and electrical insulators.

The object’s purpose to this day is to clean teeth, gums and tongue although we now use toothpaste with it and they are typically made of plastic handles and nylon or natural boar bristles.
