Across
  1. 1. The act of condensing; the state of being condensed.
  2. 8. An effect whereby a mass moving in a rotating system experiences a force (the Coriolis force ) acting perpendicular to the direction of motion and to the axis of rotation. On the earth, the effect tends to deflect moving objects to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern and is important in the formation of cyclonic weather systems.
  3. 11. Strong, generally westerly winds concentrated in a relatively narrow and shallow stream in the upper troposphere of the earth.
  4. 12. A front between warm and cold air masses that is moving very slowly or not at all.
  5. 15. A body of air covering a relatively wide area, exhibiting approximately uniform properties through any horizontal section.
  6. 16. When warm, moist air near the surface rises to be above the heavier cool, dry air.
  7. 19. Energy transmitted in wave motion, especially electromagnetic wave motion.
  8. 20. The temperature at or near a surface.
  9. 21. A transition zone between a mass of warm air and the colder air it is replacing.
  10. 22. Air in natural motion, as that moving horizontally at any velocity along the earth's surface.
Down
  1. 1. The zone separating two air masses, of which the cooler, denser mass is advancing and replacing the warmer.
  2. 2. The force exerted by air, whether compressed or unconfined, on any surface in contact with it.
  3. 3. Energy derived from the sun in the form of solar radiation.
  4. 4. Energy possessed within the object or system due to movement of the particles within the object or system.
  5. 5. A composite front formed when a cold front overtakes a warm front and forces it aloft.
  6. 6. A storm with a violent wind, in particular a tropical cyclone in the Caribbean.
  7. 7. A continuous, directed movement of sea water generated by a number of forces acting upon the water, including wind, the Coriolis effect, breaking waves, cabbeling, and temperature and salinity differences.
  8. 9. The envelope of gases surrounding the earth or another planet.
  9. 10. Having or involving a low or below-normal pressure, as steam or water.
  10. 13. A warm ocean current flowing N from the Gulf of Mexico, along the E coast of the U.S., to an area off the SE coast of Newfoundland, where it becomes the western terminus of the North Atlantic Current.
  11. 14. Having or involving a pressure above the normal.
  12. 17. The act or process of evaporating
  13. 18. A map or chart showing weather conditions over a wide area at a particular time, compiled from simultaneous observations at different places.
