  1. 4. The amount of depth in an artwork. Around, between, above, inside, outside are all words we use to describe this element. Can be used in both 2D and 3D artworks.
  2. 6. The assortment of different elements in a work of art. These differences create interest and contrast.
  3. 7. This is created when attention is drawn to one or more parts of a design. The point where the viewers eye is immediately drawn. Also known as the focal point.
  4. 8. This adds excitement to an artwork. This principle directs the eye through the artwork. The element of line is especially helpful to this principle.

  6. 14. Both sides of a design do not match, but are still visually balanced.

  8. 22. This happens when there are large difference between elements in an art work. (Ex. hot vs. cool colors or light vs. shadow or geometric vs. organic shapes.)
  9. 23. The most basic element of art. Has thickness, direction, and movement, can be interrupted and show emotion in a work of art.
  10. 24. When a line crosses over itself. Is either geometric or organic.

  12. 17. The surface quality or "feel" of a an object ( rough, smooth soft, etc.)
  13. 18. This is the sense that all parts belong together in a work of art creating harmony, wholeness.
  14. 19. texture. The texture you can physically feel.
  15. 20. The range of lightness to darkness of colors or black, white and all the tints and shades between.
