  1. 4. A doing word. She walked to the shops after school.
  2. 5. Something that is similar, it is ‘like’ or ‘as’ something else. He’s as strong as a bull.
  3. 7. This is the repetition of letter sound at the start of a word.
  4. 9. A word describing how something is done. Usain Bolt ran quickly to the finish line of the 100m race.
  5. 11. Question These are questions where you are not expected to answer. Can a fish swim?
  6. 12. Using descriptive words (adjectives) to describe something and paint a picture in your head. He had short deep black hair, with bright blue eyes, and was a tall, skinny boy.

  1. 1. A describing word. Sometimes there are three together to make it more effective. He had to wear a big, bright blue plaster in cooking.
  2. 2. This is a word that imitates or suggests the source of the sound that it describes. There was a bee buzzing around the flowers.
  3. 3. This is when something is said to be something else. Juliet is the sun.
  4. 6. When something non-human or even something that is not alive; is doing something only humans can do. I could hear my bed calling my name.
  5. 8. This includes informal (or casual) words that are made up and used by cultural groups. In Australia they say g’day mate for good morning and barbie for barbeque.
  6. 10. Language This is when adjectives or adverbs are used that relate to or refer to emotions. There is an endless trauma, desperation and mindless suffering from doing school work.
