  1. 1. A guide and advice-giver. They help prepare the hero for their journey.
  2. 2. The first major choice of the hero where they move from ordinary to extraordinary, usually moving locations.
  3. 4. The protagonist. Every other archetype is defined according to their relationship with this person.
  4. 5. Either good, bad, or neutral, these characters guard boundaries the hero must cross and can appear at any time.
  5. 7. The main goal has been achieved and the hero heads home, usually with a few more obstacles.
  6. 8. Constantly changing, these characters exist to test the hero's judgment. They can start as good and become bad, or vice versa.
  7. 9. These are the ultimate villain and usually reflect the hero's darker traits in some way.
  8. 10. The hero receives a literal or metaphorical prize / gift for defeating their enemy.
  9. 11. This is a mental, not physical, uncertainty. The hero doubts themself but finds the inner strength to continue their journey.
  10. 12. The hero is raised in a normal life but is “special” in some way.
  11. 14. A friend and companion to the hero. They are co-travelers and helpers.
