  10. 23. picornavirus in 1-2week old birds that causes neuro signs - ataxia, imbalance, head and wing tremors. Necropsy - neuronal axon-type degeneration (ghost cells) in brainstem, prevented by vx breeding animal to prevent vertical transmission
  11. 25. infectious ___ aka bumboro disease, birnavirus that causes watery diarrhea, incoordination, prostration, vent pecking, poor doers. necropsy - isolated from bursa of fabricius. no tx; prevent by vx breeders and progeny
  12. 26. mite on legs and unfeathered parts causing irritation that can lead to feather picking and thickened skin on legs (knemidocoptes mutanns)

  3. 5. adenovirus in bird 6-12 weeks old causing depression, bloody diarrhea, sudden death. vaccinate 4-5 week old turkeys
  4. 6. swollen edematous pectoral muscles in turkey caused by vigorously exercised muscle that when handled leads to swelling, ischemia, and necrosis
  5. 7. mild disease in chickens, severe in turkeys; turkeys get nasal discharge, swelling of para nasal sinus, dec wt and eggs, severe sinusitis and air sacculitis
  6. 10. renal damage that causes urate crystals to accumulate in affected organs - liver, myocardium, spleen, etc
  7. 12. mite that spends the entire life ON THE HOST; apply pesticides to BIRDS. affect feathered regions around vent
  8. 13. in turkeys, caused by chlamydia psittaci; cs- nasal and ocular discharge, wt loss, inappetance, death. on necropsy intracytoplasmic inclusions
  9. 16. common in raptors, penguins, waterfowl but not psittacines except with stress, immunosuppression. causes white plaques on air sacs and caseous plugs in distal trachea. treat w/amphotericin B
  10. 17. aka thrush that my develop after tx with abx, cs- white lesions in the mouth, crop, esophagus. tx with CuSO4 in water, nystatin in feed
