  1. 4. This UNC Internist wrote a book titled “Equal Care: Health Equity, Social Democracy, and the Egalitarian State” (due out in March) and has recently attended meetings in DC in an advisory role about the issues covered in his book.
  2. 5. We reconnected with this branch of the family we hadn’t seen in over 40 years.
  3. 7. This UNC Palliative Care physician and avid reader is a die-hard Notre Dame and Broncos football fan.
  4. 11. This 6th-grader just earned his black belt in To Shin Do ninjutsu, runs on his school’s cross-country team, qualified for his school’s Scripps Spelling Bee, and loves to read.
  5. 12. This 4th-grader loves to learn everything there is to know about all animals but his favorite has long been the gorilla. He studies To Shin Do ninjutsu style martial arts and plays soccer on a local team.
  6. 13. This VA Hospital biostatistician had 4 papers published this year analyzing clinical outcomes in veterans.
  7. 14. This kindergartener entered school in a Spanish Immersion program where 50% of her day is taught in Spanish. Her after school activities include gymnastics and swimming, and she delights in all things sparkly.
  8. 15. Between the two of us we’ve managed to visit 7 states, a country north of this US, and skimmed the surface waters of the Bayou Barataria on a highspeed airboat.

  1. 1. This UNC Sports doc travels the world with NBA Basketball Without Borders, wins national and international Ultimate Frisbee titles with his team, Boneyard and serves as team doctor for several UNC sports teams.
  2. 2. This graphic artist crochets, does needlepoint and sews all in her spare time creating beautiful works of art while performing as the Creative Director of her team in the University of North Carolina Development Office.
  3. 3. This courageous cousin battled health issues for decades but sadly lost this battle in July.
  4. 6. This beloved sister-in law passed away in April after a long illness. She is deeply missed.
  5. 8. This preschooler would spend every minute of his day playing with construction vehicles and other trucks in the sand or dirt. When forced to do other things he loves trains and books (about construction vehicles and trucks!)
  6. 9. At whose wedding did we strut as revelers in the Second Line procession through the streets of New Orleans.
  7. 10. This guy wins medals on Special Olympics bocce and softball teams. He also serves up tasty meals at various food stations in the University of Bloomsburg student food court.
