The Price to Play: Why so Many Cannot Partake in Youth Sports

  1. 2. Have evolved over the years and have turned into a 17 billion dollar industry leaving many children and young athletes not able to play the sports they know and love. Many parents are stuck paying bills and cannot afford the expensive prices of the programs under this industry.
  2. 4. This is a sport that many young children love it is what the AAU program is well known for nowadays. This sport consists of a ball a hoop and whoever scores the most wins.

  4. 7. This is an award that colleges may offer to one who excels in sports or academics and this would lower the cost of tuition or even make it free. Many earn scholarships but it is rare and hard to achieve especially in sports. The most common ones are for academic purposes.

  9. 19. This United States president created this program that brought women into youth sports and made it so girls could play youth sports without being discriminated against. This program still exists today and has helped many girls not be discriminated against for the sports they love to play.
  10. 20. Program created in the early 1900s to better the youth sports community, it opened up schools that are around today. It is still a cheap option for many young athletes to participate for a very cheap price but also get educations at the same time.
  11. 21. This is a private academy in Florida that travels all over the country to compete in sports. You are only allowed to attend two years of high school here and the school focuses on sports and only sports. This school is known by so many young Americans and cost just as much as a college for many.
  12. 22. This is one of the two founders of the very well-known AAU program that is still around today. Their program was just a thought in their head until they made it a reality in 1888 and now it is one of the most well-known youth sports programs in the country

These are private high schools but in this purpose it is private sport high schools that usually are very expensive and they are for students that excel in sports and want to pursue them in college and even after college. These are often very very expensive and the competition is often very high here. One of the biggest examples of one of these schools would be IMG. A private school in florida built to build athletes that excel in sports.

This man created the PSAL program in the early 1900s to better the youth sports communities by providing public schools where many students could attend and get better at the sport they like the best. These schools are very much so around today and are a great affordable option for many families struggling financially.
  5. 9. This is a form of youth sports where the family of the individual will pay usually lots on their own for their son or daughter to play. An example of this would be travel sports being expensive and the family having to pay for the sports of their own.
  6. 10. This is the other founder of the well-known AAU youth sports program. He is known to be one of the most important people to the development of organized youth sports. Working alongside James Sulivan they made a great team and made the AAU program into one of the biggest sports organizations in the country.
  7. 14. This is the first industry created for youth sports and it was established in 1888. This program is still around today and provides athletes with great teams with good competition and great facilities to practice in.
  8. 15. This is a form of living that many people live nowadays and some expensive youth sports teams/ programs lead families on a path to live like this. It is when you receive your pay you immediately spend it to pay other bills and such.
  9. 17. This is a huge sports network that our Photographer Thomas Crane works for. This sports network is one of the most known networks in the world and continues to bring sports live to homes each and every day.
  10. 18. is a youth baseball league that is for children with disabilities and they are mainly in wheelchairs and have many people helping the play. This is a place that Blake Gnepper usually volunteers at just to help children who are less fortunate love the game just like he does.
